Test Post
If you can read this, it means I have managed to get the WordPress for Symbian working. Maybe I will be blogging a little more from here on in.
The Ranga vs Speedoman
It’s been a while since I actually blogged…I’ve tweeted, and other such things, but not an actual blog post as such. I’ve been a bit busy with work in recent weeks/months…hopefully I’ll get back into some sort of regular posting pattern…or something like that.
With the federal election coming up on August 21…it’s going to be a hard one to pick. Both Labor and the Coalition are as bad as each other – quite frankly, I don’t wanna vote for either Juile Gillard or Tony Abbott. Their local representatives in the seat of Hunter (Joel Fitzgibbon for Labor, Michael Johnsen for the Nationals) don’t really appeal to me, and we don’t really have any clear alternatives. The Greens haven’t announced their candidate for the seat, they could have a huge impact, with a battle between the coal miners and the agricultural and thoroughbred industries likely to split the seat.
As for the Senate – I think it’s a bit more straightforward in my thinking. I’m going below the line and giving my votes to a variety of minor parties, including the Australian Sex Party and the Pirate Party. The Senate is looking like it will be held by the likes of the Greens, minor parties and independents.
My tip? Labor to hold onto power, with a reduced majority, and the afore mentioned Greens/minor parties/independents holding the balance of power. I am likely to be wrong though. For Australia’s sake, I hope I’m right.
The Big Dan Show – on the move?
As I alluded to on my Facebook status update, I have some news with regards to my Big Dan Show podcast.
I have been rather busy over the past few months, so unfortunately, I have not had the time to do a show. However, I do hope to do a show soon, but some issues have arisen in the past few months.
At the moment I am dealing with a overseas based hoster, which does its payments in $US dollars. With the Aussie dollar sliding badly, I need to think about my bank account. As a result, I am going to move the show to an Australia-based company. Therefore, that will mean the show have new RSS addresses, and might also mean that the MP3 files will disappear, unless the new hoster will copy over the files as well.
Once certain bills are dealt with, I will begin the transfer. I will let you know via djpalmer.com and our Facebook and Twitter pages as to when the new server is going and when a new ep is online. Stay tuned folks!
The 2010 Logie Awards – A Review
Right, I’ve just wasted 3-4 hours of my life and missed out on some sleep to watch the tripe that is the 2010 TV Week Logie Awards. Here’s a quick synop of what went down…
Gold Logie – I was partially right, a Seven Network personality did win, but it was not someone from Rebecca Gibney or that other woman from Home and Away. Ray Meagher won the gong voted by the public on his first attempt. Well, I won’t totally begrudge him a win after all the years he’s been on the show, but I reckon Shaun Micallef, Paul McDermott, Adam Hills and/or Wil Anderson were robbed.
Highlights – Shaun Micallef’s acceptance speech (see bottom of this post), quoting Sir Laurence Oliver’s acceptance speech from the Oscars several decades ago. Four Corners deservedly won a Logie for Code of Silence. And some rather attractive ladies. That’s about it.
Lowlights – Well, 90% of the whole show. Ruby Rose proved why Austar needs to slash their subscription fees by a fair bit before I ever sign up for pay TV – she’s given us a scary foresight into her own future when she turns 60 with her get-up. Oh, and she’s not very good.
The entire list of winners and losers can be found at Wikipedia.
The whole things prove that democracy sucks. I’d post that Kent Brockman clip from The Simpsons, but I can’t find one I can embed. But you get my drift.
Reasons Why We’re All Going To Hell #1: Justin Beiber

The only good sign all day
In the first post of reasons why we’re all going to hell when he/she/it decides to send down their minions to punish us all in the end, I present to you…Canada’s answer to Nikki Webster (minus the red hair and breasts), Justin Beiber. And going down with him will be the parents of teenage girls and the Seven Network’s Sunrise program. Here’s why…
Sunrise had plugged for days and days the appearance of his Canuck “crooner” (and that’s using the term loosely) exclusively on their show. Naturally, with all the hullabaloo online with Twitter and the like, one could expect a decent sized crowd to turn up to what would be his only performance in Australia. They even moved it to the passenger terminal at Circular Quay to ensure as many people could be swoon over the tyke as possible.
Well…it all turned to shit this morning, thanks to over-zealous teenagers couldn’t wait until 6am to go nuts – they went nuts at 2am. Thankfully, the police, in their infinite wisdom, told Seven to shut the concert down, as reported by the fine folk at the ABC. The mini-concert was moved back to the studios at Martin Place, in order to settle the poor dears down. Now, I have been there, and let me tell you, it’s not the biggest courtyard around. It’s not the best place to host a bunch of hormone-fueled young women, and this morning was proof of that. I saw those images of people going off their heads (can’t say tits, certain women will kill me) and all over someone who will be in the Canadian wilderness in five years struggling to chop down a tree. Thankfully, I was never that obsessed with someone…I think.
And where was the parents? That’s what the police would like to know.
Possible Salvation: Well….can Seven lose their broadcast licenses (all six of them, and while we’re at it – can we throw Prime/GWN and Southern Cross in their for good measure?) for fuelling these idiots? Today probably should not have been a public holiday though…mind you, I’m not complaining about the day off!
Maybe it’s just me, and the fact that Justin is not Justine with a huge rack and a good set of pipes…
To Blog Or Not To Blog?
Well, as you can tell, I have finally got off my arse and fixed up my blog. A few technical problems and life in general have prevented me from actually doing anything the blog, but with the long weekend here, I decided to fix it up.
And to celebrate – here’s Mel Brooks.
